What to know about Regal Theatre
Opened in 1938 as a picture palace, the Regal is one of Perth’s best-known Art Deco buildings and is heritage-listed. Long since converted to live performance, it hosts touring musicians, comedy, musical theatre and cabaret in a seated room that keeps every row reasonably close to the stage. It suits acoustic acts and heritage bands in particular. In 2027 Rodrigo y Gabriela play here on 21 January, and Smokie bring their Greatest Hits Tour for two nights on 19 and 20 February. The façade on the corner of Hay Street and Rokeby Road is one of Subiaco’s landmarks, and the streets around it are lined with cafés, pubs and restaurants, which makes a pre-show meal easy to arrange.
Getting to Regal Theatre
The Regal is at the heart of Subiaco, where Hay Street meets Rokeby Road, and Subiaco station on the Fremantle line is roughly a five-minute walk away; trains from Perth station take under ten minutes. Buses along Hay Street and Rokeby Road also stop close to the theatre. Paid parking in the Subiaco town centre goes quickly on weekend evenings, so the train is usually the easier choice. From Fremantle, the same line runs direct to Subiaco in just over 20 minutes.
Regal Theatre 2027: seats, bags and timing
Seats in the middle of the room give the most balanced sound; the side seats are fine for most acoustic and band shows. Rokeby Road has restaurants and pubs either side of the theatre, which makes an early dinner easy. Allow a few minutes for the walk from the station and the door queue. Take a jacket in winter months — Subiaco nights can be cool.
