What to know about Freo.Social
Freo.Social occupies the Artillery Drill Hall, built in 1895 and later famous as the home of the Fly By Night Musicians Club, a cornerstone of Fremantle’s music scene. It reopened as Freo.Social in March 2019, combining a brewery and taps with an entertainment hall that holds around 550 people. Look down and you may notice old badminton court lines on the floorboards — reputedly where Australia’s first game was played. In 2027 we track Boundaries, Corrella, Skerryvore, Ben Ottewell and Ian Ball of Gomez, The Longest Johns and Inspiral Carpets here. Like most of central Fremantle, it is within walking distance of the station, the West End and the cafés of South Terrace.
Freo.Social: getting there and back
Freo.Social is in central Fremantle, an easy walk from Fremantle station, the end of the line from Perth. The train from Perth station takes around half an hour, and services run frequently into the evening; just check the last train back if your show finishes late. Buses from the southern suburbs terminate at the Fremantle station interchange. Fremantle has paid street parking and public car parks, which can be busy on Friday and Saturday nights when the restaurants and South Terrace are in full swing.
Before your Freo.Social concert
Shows are mostly standing; the hall is flat, so taller crowds can limit the view from the back — move to the sides. The beer garden makes it easy to arrive early and eat on site. Combine the gig with a walk around the West End or the Fishing Boat Harbour if you are coming from Perth.
